Great question. As a qualified accountant I've often told my pals you can see AJ's career in the Matchroom Boxing Ltd financial accounts. Massively linked to AJ over the years. Boxing hasn't grown much at all like people think it has. AJ truly is the cashcow. I'd say 70%+ of the value/revenue of Matchroom comes from snooker/darts etc. Eddie get's all the credit, but it's his old man & sister who deserve the praise. Maybe Matchroom is worth £1bn per some insane valuation metrics....but the boxing operation isn't worth more than £200m...even that's a reach. Bear in mind Matchroom USA LLC is a whole different entity that's harder to assess...but going off the endless pit of DAZN money thrown at it to 'disrupt' the American market, I imagine it's a bloodbath. The fact DAZN owned a % shares, which is unusual says a lot about how much money they burned.
Eddie is hardly going to say 'Yes it will financially ruin us'. He's just doing damage control. Matchroom's entire history with AJ is just one big branding exercise.

Just because a boxer takes a loss does not mean he should retire. Boxers used to take losses in the early stages of their career as they learned the trade. Now promoters are so despirate to keep that undefeated title that they sheild the fighter from tough fights. That means they dont get really tested untill they are on the big stage. In the long run it does not do the boxers any favors.
People are always the same. They are always quick to say retire when you take a loss. AJ still has fight left in him. He can still bounce back. There's still plenty of big fights there for him. It's not time to retire yet. I personally would like to see him fight Wilder next. I think it makes sense.
